Pro Makeup Brushes are superior quality professional brushes and when cared for correctly, will last for many years. Of course, they are working brushes and are designed for appropriate daily use but need daily maintenance as you would with your own hair.

Our white goat hair is the best grade of this type, soft and fluffy, great for powdered applications such as loose powders, eye shadow and blushers: you need to keep fluffy, clean and well conditioned.

The brown sable hair is very directional; it goes where you need it! Suitable for liquid and creamy makeup such as foundations, concealers and lipstick or gloss. It is designed to work using sweeping movements and not to blend eye shadows.

Our artificial hair can be washed using the same instructions but make sure you use tepid water. If hot water is used, the fibres will mis-shape and not return to their original position. Parian Spirit is also for use on these brushes.

Washing any brush is simple and fast, a gentle soap or shampoo and thorough rinse, leaving to dry on a flat surface. Avoid getting excessive moisture in the handle or ferrule: the handle is wooden and will expand when excessively or consistently wet and will cause the ferrule (metal collar that holds the hair or bristle) to open. This is irreparable.

Directions

  1. Put a pea size of shampoo on the palm of your hand,

  2. Hold the brushes by the handle and massage each head into the shampoo. You can do this with two or three brushes at a time if you wish.

  3. Thoroughly rinse and if using a conditioner, duplicate the process leaving product on for 10 seconds or so.

  4. After washing, gently squeeze the hair flat ensuring you don’t pull too hard on the hair. This will squeeze out excess water and reshape. While this looks odd when wet, it will dry as good as new. At this stage you may notice a strange smell, this will pass once dried and is the result of wet animal hair.

  5. Lay to dry flat on a clean surface without the hair touching anything, the edge of a towel of facecloth works well. If the hair touches the cloth, sometimes a few hairs stick out; this is not a long term problem and will rectify itself at the next wash.

For extra greasy makeup such as lipsticks and concealer, you may find that two washes are needed.

If sanitising products are used, ensure you use a high quality brush cleaner such as Parian Spirit. You can buy cheaper, mass produced,  alcohol cleaners but the alcohol dries the hair making it brittle and causes the hair to snap. If you feel the brush is getting ‘rough’ due to excessive cleaning, condition after shampooing on every 2nd or 3rd wash (especially the goat hair brushes). This will keep the hair super soft and manageable. Never reply solely on sanitising sprays to clean brushes: they are only to be used as hygiene control between clients.

Pro Makeup Brushes are delighted to recommend Parian Spirit on our natural hair brushes. This cleaner is environmentally friendly with amazing anti-bacterial, cleansing and conditioning qualities.

At every stage, just use common sense. Leaving to dry in bright sunlight will soften any glue, drying flat so that water doesn’t run into the handle and expand, when travelling keep brushes together to avoid creasing with movement. Getting into the habit of cleansing brushes regularly will ensure your investments full potential and in 10 years, you will reap rewards when they still look and feel as good as new!

Enjoy!
